California Supreme Court holds headhunters not liable for injuries

In the latest implied assumption of risk sports injury case, the California Supreme court held that a school district had no duty to prevent baseball pitchers from intentionally throwing at batters. Although illegal, baseball "headhunting" is an expected part of the game. Just ask Craig Biggio. The court's fond stroll down memory lane contrasts sharply with the court of appeals' somewhat more harsh treatment of the rogue sport of snowboarding.
I can't distinguish these two cases on sound legal principles. Can you?
